Seiko 7A48-7000 "Moonphase" from March 1985 - UNSERVICED
Here is a beautiful Seiko Moonphase from March 1985. It’s in great condition, though there are marks on the case, as would be expected due to the age of the watch. It has the original full-length bracelet and has not been refinished.
The movement is part of the excellent 7A family. They were the first analogue quartz chronograph. It has 15 jewels and an all metal train. It was the first chronograph with fly-by-dash wire control. There are four separate gear trains, each with their own coil. The variable trimmer allows dialing the accuracy to 1/10 of a second per week.
Seiko believed in the 7A movement and as a result they managed to get them in not only into one, but two blockbuster movies (Aliens and A View to a Kill). Additionally, the movements were considered so durable that the RAF and SAAF used them as pilot watches.
The 7A48 has an interesting and complex calendar side as well as Moonphase mechanism. And like all other versions of this movement, it’s entirely metal. I just think it is the most elegant of the Moonphases, before and since.
This watch is being sold unserviced. If you would like to get it serviced, contact me after purchase.
